The main connections between my images are the emotions I aim to portray. Whenever I take a photo, no matter the subject, my main focus is always trying to use the image to evoke some sort of strong emotion. I am starting to see my style in the way I like to work with colors and lighting to make the subject pop and I really enjoy shooting images with grey undertones or strong colors, but not necessarily bright ones. I also have started to focus mainly on photographing human subjects, often with a simple background and interacting with one main object or prop, for example Chloe with the lights and Sam with the water. When creating an interesting photo I want to find a subject who will work well in the environment I’ve chosen and who will work well with any props or poses to convey the emotion or story I’m creating with the image.

One connection between all my photos is the setting. Whether the photo was taken in my basement, or along Colfax, the theme being these photos have been taken in places I have been familiar with since I was a child. Taking these photos allowed me to see these places in an entirely new way. I think my photos have started reflecting a sense of style as I have gotten more comfortable working with photoshop. They tend to have less garish colors, and I enjoy making discrete edits that take a moment to notice. I enjoy creating images that immediately are viewed as normal, until you look closer and see something strange or unnatural. I also enjoy a sense of asymmetry in my photos, which keeps the composition from looking to generic. When choosing a subject to shoot I am drawn to more organic subjects, like people or nature, over manufactured, man made scenes or objects. To create an interesting photo I like to find scenes or objects that people see everyday, so the viewer can feel a connection with them, and then add or enhance unique elements to give the viewer a new outlook on the subject. In the future I will continue to find subjects percieved as normal, and change the way people consider them.
